Patient Information in Towson, MD

Your First Dental Visit

Before your first visit, we will take your insurance information and dental history. Bring your identification, insurance card if applicable, and any forms that may be relevant, including a medication list. You can have your previous office send your information, including dental X-rays. When you first visit our office, we will check you in and guide you through new paperwork.  We will review your dental and medical history and ask about your current dental concerns. Then, we will provide you with a dental cleaning, and Dr. Diacoloukas will examine your smile.

Routine Dental Appointments

At regular dental visits, patients can expect:

  • Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis): During a dental cleaning, we use stainless steel dental tools to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth and gums. We also brush the teeth with a gritty polish, floss between teeth, polish the teeth, and apply fluoride to strengthen the tooth enamel.
  • Digital X-rays: While we may not take dental X-rays at every visit, we will take them frequently to take note of developments in the smile. We will also use X-rays to create treatment plans.
  • Oral Cancer Screening: Oral cancer is a serious dental problem that we screen for at each visit. During an oral cancer screening, we look for white and red patches, chronic mouth sores, and other abnormalities in the soft tissue. We will examine your mouth, tongue, jaw, and neck.
  • Examination: Dr. Diacoloukas will also examine your smile after your cleaning. During this final checkup, he will look for signs of any emerging dental problems.
